A commercial washer produced a sharp, continuous squeal during high-speed extraction. Accurate diagnosis isolated the fault to a worn front bearing in the drive motor—allowing the bearing to be replaced without unnecessarily replacing the complete motor.

Reported Symptom
The washer operated without a significant abnormal sound at low speed. When it entered the high-speed extraction cycle, a piercing squeal developed and became more pronounced as motor and basket speed increased. Continuing to operate the machine in this condition could have caused additional motor damage and unplanned downtime.
Inspection and Diagnosis
The belt, pulleys, drive components, and motor operation were checked systematically. The sound was isolated to the front end of the drive motor. After disassembly, inspection confirmed that the drive motor front bearing was worn and producing abnormal friction noise at high speed.
The diagnosis was based on when the sound occurred, how it changed with speed, its location, and the mechanical condition of the motor shaft and bearing—not on an assumption that every extraction squeal is caused by a belt.
Repair Performed
- Removed the related drive components and drive motor.
- Disassembled and inspected the motor’s front bearing area.
- Replaced the worn bearing with a 6206-2RS/C3.
- Reassembled the motor, belt, and drive components.
- Tested the washer through a high-speed extraction cycle.

Result
After the front bearing was replaced, the high-pitched squeal disappeared and the washer returned to smooth operation during high-speed extraction. Replacing only the confirmed failed component helped control repair cost and reduce equipment downtime.
